Amazon Echo is a series of smart speakers launched by Amazon that are operated by Amazon’s very own AI Assistant known as Alexa. You can talk to Alexa using the voice command “Alexa”, or “Echo”. Before you update your Echo device you need to check if the device is already up to date or not. In order to check the version of Amazon Echo you are running follow the given steps.
- Open Alexa app on your mobile or go to alexa.amazon.com.
- Now from Menu, hit settings.
- Select your device and scroll down to the About Section where you will find the Device Software Version.
Here, compare the version installed on your device to the latest version available. If they differ then you need to update your device otherwise the update is already installed to your device you do not need any further update. - Press and release the mute button on your Echo device and wait for the light to turn red which essentially tells us that the device is now mute.
- After some time (in some devices it may take from few minutes to half an hour) Alexa will announce that it needs a new software installation for update. Proceed with the installation process. Make sure that during the installation process you have a stable internet connection and it is advised not to give any commands to Alexa while it is being updated.
Once through with the installation process the device will be updated to the newest version and the device will automatically restart, and it will no longer be muted.
Amazon maintains a webpage on its site which tells the Echo user with all the new features the update supports. You can check it on the Amazon’s page of your respective country’s website.
Amazon Echo devices can update the new update within few hours of their release or at worst they can take up to a couple of days depending upon the region you live in and your internet connection. It is however completely safe to forcefully update the firmware but automatic update is the most suitable option to go for.
